The front apron with AIRPANEL active air control system and the active aerodynamics profile in the underbody, the large rear aerofoil and the rear apron with double diffuser increase the aerodynamic efficiency and help ensure optimum grip. The lightweight forged wheels are likewise designed for maximum driving dynamics. The same applies to the active rear-wheel steering, the nine-way adjustable traction control system and the adjustable coil-over suspension with additional electronic control. As a result, the AMG GT R offers the optimal prerequisites for the tough job in the premier class of motorsports. The requirements profile of the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) for the Official FIA F1 Safety Car is demanding. It must be able to maintain a minimum speed level to prevent the tyres and brakes of the Formula 1 vehicles from excessive cooling and the engines from overheating. With a top speed of 318 km/h and seconds for the sprint from zero to 100 km/h, the AMG GT R poses no risk for this to happen. The German manufacturer has a long history of supplying safety and medical cars and since 2019, they have supplied the Mercedes-AMG GT R as the Safety Car. That will now be replaced by the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series for half the races as Mercedes continue to share Safety Car duties with Aston Martin, just as they did last year. In addition, the AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+ will be used as the medical car for the season. To have a workplace like this in the name of safety is a dream come true.” The cars themselves are much like the base models available to customers but have been customised to fit the needs of F1. At the front, three small orange light modules and one large green module are positioned on each side of the AMG logo, level with the sun visors which will be used in various points throughout a race. The rear number plate can also be illuminated in either orange or green in synch with the safety lights. Inside, the car has been fitted with a roll cage made from bolted tubular titanium.
